Harley
Description
Harley is a very special dog that has had a rough few months. He was originally re-homed from our branch four years ago but sadly he is once again looking a forever home due to his owners having a house fire and having to move into temporary accommodation. Harley is now eight years old but still has the energy and the giddiness of a young boy; he loves to go on long walks and will run circuits around our paddock with his toy sausages hanging from his mouth! Harley is a large, leggy staffie cross with an unlimited amount of love to offer everyone he meets. He absolutely adores people and gets very excited when he gets to meet new faces. He is always smiling and his tail never stops wagging when he’s around people.
Although Harley loves going on walks with anybody, and will happily play fetch with anyone willing to throw a ball for him. Harley is truly a people loving dog, but he is wary on unfamiliar people touching his head/collar. He needs to build up his trust in you first, otherwise he responds with submissive gestures or even a warning bark but never with aggression. However, It only took a few days before he was happy for us to put a harness and lead on him and once you have earned his trust he will love you forever. His lack of trust in strangers does however make vet trips very stressful, he loves meeting all the staff but does get very agitated during the examination but he is a lot more co-operative when faced with a handful of treats!
Harley is very interested in other animals, he does love to chase squirrels and cat, so he needs to go to a home with no small furries and be kept on a lead in areas with lots of wildlife. He is also interested in other dogs; he tends to want to have a good sniff of them, especially the females (he is neutered!,) but can sometimes react to bigger dogs and male dogs, so we believe a home with no other dogs would be the most relaxing and peaceful option for him.
Harley is a very bright dog who will sit and wait for treats and his dinner. He also has excellent recall and is brilliant off lead. Harley is a joy to have around and will cheer everyone up with his big smiling face. He is looking for a strong owner who has had a staffy type before or has knowledge of the breed and who will not leave him for more than four hours at a time. And because he sometimes forgets his size and jumps up and/or tries to sit on your knee we wouldn't recommend him with children under 10, but using positive, reward-based training we are sure that this behaviour can be quickly addressed with a consistent approach by all members of the family.
