Doug

Doug

Description

Hello, my name is Doug.

I am a six month old male Staffy mix. I arrived at The Mayhew because I was sadly found in a carrier bag dumped in the park.

I am an active and out-going boy. Super friendly, I’m always wagging my tail and happy to see new people. I’m now in a foster home learning lots of good things. I am already toilet trained and will go and sit by the back door when I need to go out. I have also learnt to go to my crate when I am told and not to leave it until my foster mum says I can. I sit when told and I pick up on commands quickly because I am a fast little learner and will always work hard for a treat. I am good with dogs my own size and bigger but I can be too boisterous for smaller dogs. I do get very excited when visitors come to the house and will jump up to kiss everybody but I am learning to greet people nicely. I am calm in the house when it is just the family around. I can be left alone for a couple of hours and providing I have had a good run around beforehand, I happily settle down in my crate with a chew. I am currently learning to walk nicely on a head collar and not go rushing off to say hello to people and other dogs when off lead but to come back when called. I still have plenty of things to learn so I will need plenty of time and dedication from my new owners to continue my training and perfect my doggy manners. My foster mum says that I am a very sweet- natured and loving boy and will make a great addition to any family.

I am now looking for a forever home with someone who has owned dogs before and has researched my breed type. They will need to have plenty of time on their hands to train and socialise me properly so that I develop in to a well rounded adult dog. They will be expected to take me to training classes and provide me with a minimum of one hour of off lead exercise every day. I can live with sensible children from seven years of age and upwards providing they will be consistent with my training and I can live with another medium to large sized dog providing they will be a good role model for me. I wouldn’t be suitable to live with cats. I will need a home where there is somebody around for most of the day. If you’re interested in offering me a home you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, you will be taking on a fifteen year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.

I hope to see you soon

Doug is currently living in foster care until his new forever home is found. If you are interested in adopting him you will need to visit The Mayhew first before going to see him in his foster home.
